A 30-day agent readiness plan for Shopify merchants

What can genuinely be done on a mainstream platform without replatforming, in what order, and what the sequencing gets you week by week.

The good news for merchants on Shopify, BigCommerce, WooCommerce and similar platforms is that almost none of the necessary work requires leaving the platform. The metafield and structured-data primitives are already there. What is missing is the model of what to put in them and the discipline to keep it accurate.

Week 1, Measure before you touch anything

Run the intent set. Record what assistants say about you today. This matters for two reasons: it tells you which attributes are actually blocking recommendations in your category, and it gives you a baseline that makes the later work defensible internally.

Week 2, Model the catalog

Define the attribute schema for your category, mapped to the constraints that showed up in week one. Then find where each fact already lives in the business, PIM, spec sheets, supplier data, support macros, and build the pipeline that gets it into structured fields automatically. Manual entry is a trap; it decays.

Week 3, Publish and make reachable

Structured records go live. Policies become data rather than prose. The buy path gets built so that an assistant handing off a shopper lands them on something that converts, with attribution and consent attached. On mainstream platforms this is configuration and a thin app layer, not a rebuild.

Week 4, Instrument and hand over

Re-run the intent set against the baseline and measure the delta. Stand up monitoring so that a broken feed, a drifted claim or a competitor displacement raises an alert rather than being discovered next quarter. Train the team on the runbook.

What this does not fix

  • Configurable and made-to-order products whose variants cannot be expressed as a flat feed.
  • Multi-region entitlement and pricing rules beyond what the platform models.
  • Regulated categories with substantiation obligations that need legal review per claim.

Those are real constraints and they are the honest boundary of a plug-and-play engagement. If your catalog looks like that, the sequencing is the same but the build is custom.
